Exhaust Suggestions

I have a 70' Torino Wagon with a 302 2V. True Dual Exhaust.

Looking for something aggressive sounding and performance driven. I want that deep muscle car sound. I currently have glass packs and would like to change.

What exhaust components would you suggest?
Headers -
Pipes -
Mufflers -
Exit point -

Re: Exhaust Suggestions

Turn downs at the end of the pipes helps the sound a lot, if your going to keep a stock, or mild motor....

Re: Exhaust Suggestions

I just had dual exhausts with "H" pipe and Flowmasters put in my '71 Torino 500 with a 302. It sounds awesome!!!! I am extremely pleased with the results.

Later!

Re: Exhaust Suggestions

On my 72 I went with 2 1/2" pipe , stock manifolds , 351 4V , H-pipe , flowmaster mufflers with turndowns and no tail pipes to start. Sound was awsome but at about 1500 RPM you could not hear youself think ! It would set off car alarms in town when you drove past which was cool But I had to put tailpipes on to exit sound out the back but ,it still sounds great, and will still set off those alarms !!! Good Luck !

Re: Exhaust Suggestions

I am running flowtech afterburner mufflers and love the sound of them..They have a nice rumble at idle and sound great when you get on the gas..They are decently quiet when your just cruising though...I would recommend 2 1/4 inch exhaust with tailpipes exiting somewhere behind the back wheels...If your going to headers just for "the sound" I wouldn't bother...I do recommend them for performance though..

Re: Exhaust Suggestions

I've got Hooker 1 3/4" headers, Flowmaster u-fit 2 1/2" pipes, x-pipe, SpinTech Prostreets, and full tails in my '73 Montego (357C). It's quite nice, it seems to be quieter than the old 2"/ no crossover/ 3" tip/ cherrybomb combo that I had on there. Sounds pretty sick when you wind it up though.

Re: Exhaust Suggestions

Being you have a wagon, are you street driving, or any plans for something serious?
I honestly would say for something simple, I would buy either a set of factory 5.0 shorty headers, or get a set of good aftermarket pieces, but if you wagon isn't going to see a bunch of RPM's, I'd almost stick with the manifolds for simplicity.
As far as exhaust, I ran a 2 1/4" system on my '84 F150, though glass packs and some 4" 27" long tips. It was LOUD...lol...not something I would suggest to anyone ever again.
You could run a 2-1/4" exhaust, if you want to build it yourself, the flowmaster u-fit dual exhaust kit is the way to go, but you will need to buy some new hangers.
As far as mufflers, that has been debated and will continue to be debated until we are all dead and buried and our cars are long rusted away.

I am running the FM u-fit kit, 2.5", I used the H pipe from the kit, and 70 series flowmasters, and ran the exhause out to the back. I had a bunch of NOS ford hangers, and used them.
Being you have a wagon, that gives you some extra room.

On a stock setup, I would not go bigger than 2-1/4" on the pipe. An H pipe is better than no cross over at all, but you could probably find something for a mustang that would work.

Here is how mine sounds:
