Price of a good paint job?

I have a '69 Torino GT with a 428 cobra jet engine. It is all original and in very good shape. It does have some small chips and scratches, but nothing major. I have decided to get the entire car repainted. I will be pulling the motor and having the engine compartment painted. I am also having the underbody painted. The engine compartment will be the standard black as well as the underbody. The car will be painted the original maroon with gold stripes down the side.

My question is....what do you think this will cost?

Re: Price of a good paint job?

I just had mine done for $2700. It had a small amount of lower body rust and holes to be filled etc.

Car was taken down to bare metal, primed, and base coat/clear coat. The car was "jammed" (no sign of the previous color) as well.

It think it was a good price considering what I am hearing and what was quoted by others. Materials for my job alone were about $700. That was part of the $2700, so the dude who did it took home $2000.

Also, note this was a side job.

Re: Price of a good paint job?

Most if not ALL of the other responcders will pull a # like $6,000 to $8,000 out of their arse and tell you that's what it will cose...

They are all on crack, even the ones that I like (which is all of them)...

If you pull the motor and take it to them and they do the engine bay, the exterior adn the underbelly you are likely going to have to pay about $3,500 to $4,500,

That's what I'd charge you anyway. Unforseen conditions do exist, but not $2,000 dollars worth...

Plus, depending on the type adn brand of paint you want to use, the paint will run you anywhere between $350 (paint and clear) to about $1,800 bucks for paint and clear...
