Re: Wrecked my fender! - Dumb mistake - Anyone have a replacement?

I've done it before. Happened in the rear though and I only screwed up the wheel a bit.

PS. Did you have the lower fender bolts installed?

Go look in the stupid things thread and see some of my mistakes...
Pizza, beer, and body work! Woo hoo, sounds like a plan.

Re: Wrecked my fender! - Dumb mistake - Anyone have a replacement?

Dude guess what. The same thing just happend to me this morning. I was taking my Squire to work for the first time and jsut before I got off the freeway I get a rumbling from the front end. I slowed down emidiatly and got off the freeway as soon as possible. When I pulled into work 5 mintues later I checked and sure enough the front left tire had all 5 lug nuts half way off. I was incrediably lucky.

Good luck on getting the 68 back on the road. I know your pain. Trust me its all worth it when you get her back on the road.

Re: Wrecked my fender! - Dumb mistake - Anyone have a replacement?

Why do you feel so bad? Are you a professional? I had a PROFESSIONAL shop do the same thing to a 1973 Chrysler Cordoba I had in high school. They put the rear wheel on and apparently didnt tighten them down enough to keep the wheel on for more than 1/2 mile before the wheel fell off and ruined the bottom of the rear fender. That little faux paus cost that shop $150 cash that went right in my pocket. Us, like mechanics shops and service departments, need to post little reminders on paper and put them on the steering wheel for stuff like that. I cant tell you how many big screw ups I saved the dealerships I worked for by putting little notes on the steering wheel saying "hood latch not secure" or whatever made it non roadworthy. Dont beat yourself, and good luck finding another fender.
