Re: Wrecked my fender! - Dumb mistake - Anyone have a replacement?

I used to work at a brake shop, and we had our share of problems with loose wheels. What we used to do was when we finished the brakes on a given wheel, we would hang the wheel and start the lug nuts by hand, then leave it for the guy who finished the brakes on the last wheel, who would tighten all the wheels up at once. This was supposed to "save time". We finally settled on a policy (that I still use) that the wheels don't ever go on the car unless the guy who is hanging the wheel tightens it up. This came about when our service manager backed a good-looking late '70's Trans-Am out of the service bay into the parking lot, and BOTH front wheels fell off in our parking lot, right in front of the owner... Wasn't good.

Very sorry for your misfortune, mdula. We all feel the pain.

Re: Wrecked my fender! - Dumb mistake - Anyone have a replacement?

The yard up in denton has one but hasn't given me a price. I went to galveston this weekend and Im calling him tomorrow to check on the price. Hopefully its not rusty. Again I appreciate the sympathy, thats exactly what I did was hand tighten them and planned on doing a full tighten when it was back on the ground. I forgot. The wheel was on and felt good for a few minutes on the road.

I'll let you know what I find. I appreciate everyones concern and help. I'd still feel lost if it wasnt for this forum.

Re: Wrecked my fender! - Dumb mistake - Anyone have a replacement?

NOOOOO!!!!!! I'm so sorry to hear this. I recently had my cam fail on me (still isn't fixed btw) And after sweating my ass of last summer doing body work, Ill gladly take the engine work over the body work (not to mention sheetmetal is impossible to find and is going to be the death of these cars!!)

Similar to 69 GT I was lucky enough to work in a tire shop adn they drilled into, never hang a wheel unless your bolting it on ALLL the way! Also you ALWAYS go around and torque from left rear in a circle. I'm not yelling at you, I'm yelling at MYSELF so I don't forget. Good luck on the fender!!

Re: Wrecked my fender! - Dumb mistake - Anyone have a replacement?

Thanks! I was lucky to have a rust free car, im finding fenders but they are crushed or rusted. I wish someone would make more fiberglass for these cars. My car still has some "orange peel" that I still needed to color sand and buff out. I'm actually a little worried that the paint matching, color and texture

Its black with a hint of dark blue.

If you can find your origional painter then they should have the custom paint mix on file. Best of luck!

Re: Wrecked my fender! - Dumb mistake - Anyone have a replacement?

Thanks, sure wish I had room for an extra car. Im in an apartment. I was planning on spending about 100 - 200 on a fender and about 300 for paint. I might be way off! I swear I'll find a fender for 100 or less....dang this stinks, I mish my car.
