Question 1972 Torino Fastback - Est Worth?

As some of you folks know I've been kicking around for a 72 fastback with 4 sp. I located this fastback console car, sports gauge package, although it is not originally a Q code, with 4 speed.
Interior is a light white color, exterior is light blue with vinyl top. Car has a bit over 100k on it and is claimed to be free from rust as it was disassembled and rebuilt 15 some years ago. Not sure about all the details on that yet, working on it.

Assuming the car is a 100k+ car, rust free, and "all there", what would you say she is worth? I like the idea of using this car as a base for my Torino project since it isn't a "rare" car, numbers matching, and so on - I'd have no guilt about building it up my way. The asking price is about $10k or thereabouts. I'm not so sure I'd go that high as the car is a long way from me and I'd have to buy sight unseen.
Any suggestions or comments?

The car looks pretty clean, but I would price it around $7k or $8K and with a vynal top I can almost guarentee that there is rust in the roof. Also looks like it has a steering wheel from a lincon or Tbird, I could be wrong though. Since you're looking to spend about $10k on a car try to get them down to about $8, get a plain ticket there and drive it home, would be a nice little vacation.

I asked about the roof deal just as you caught. Fellow says the roof was removed, there was some rust and it was taken care of, and a new roof put on. Other pictures I have seem to suggest this is the case as the roof definitely looks brand new.

I was sort of thinking $7 to $8k also. I'm glad to see I wasn't too far off base from at least one other party.

I'm pretty sure that steering wheel came on 72 Torinos. In terms of price, I concur with the $7-8k, but he probably won't let it got for less than $9k if the asking frice was 10k. But if it's what you want, then go for it. You can also hire an appraiser to check out the car so you don't waste money on a plane ticket. Granted an appraiser would cost a bit too, but it would save you the time of going out there only to find out if it's a dud. The car looks great though, but baby blue is definitely not my color.... :-)

Well, judging by the motor compartment she's all there and looks pretty original. That's the kind of stuff I'd be looking for in a project or first car of its type. Other than the AC being pulled and the air cleaner that motor compartment looks very complete.

Thanks for the responses fellows. I'm going to see if he'll take an offer and if so be on the road to building this thing up like I want. I'm intrigued by the rear end on these - very much like the Triumph TR8 that I crew for and help race. We can make that handle extremely well, I think we could pull similar tricks on this Torino and get it to stick well.

Well......

I bought it!

Looks like I'll join the ranks of you Torino Muscle car lovers. First goal is to get it to NC then drive it around to learn the quirks and problems.

Then put together a plan of attack to modify it to be the Torino muscle car I want it to be.

Re: 1972 Torino Fastback - Est Worth?

As far as the steering wheel, I have that tri-bar rim blow in the 1972 GT montego I just picked up earlier this year.

Congrats on the buy. You probably got a very nice, solid car, so I'm happy for you.
Now, start a Makin' Progress blog and get us some more pictures!
