1. any thoughts on installing a mod 4.6L motor into an older
Ford, motor mounts come to mind.
2. installing either an EDIS ignition or a (cop) coil over plug
both out of a Ford. I posted this one on another site...
what do you think?
Best
ps. the ignition came to me, because my vacuum advance
went bad, and they wanted $40 at the parts store..
I'm running a 351c with a dizzy, mallory cap and cd
79 lincoln rear brakes

Re: 2 ides

You could. You would have to cosider wiring, plumbing, gas / brake pedal, steering, motor mounts, cooling, shock tower vs motor width, tranny crossmember, transmision tunnel modified, shifter linkage, custom drive shaft, header fitment, exhaust.. etc... Never as easy as it seems. But could be done, but alot of custom work would involve. You could also carburate a 4.6 / 5.4. Alot of guys have put the mod motors (better yet 4v cobra 4.6, or lightning 5.4!) in their vintage ford. I beleve you would have to start by didching your front sumframe for a mustang II type, or late model ford type so the motor would fit. Maybe you could modify the oilpan, and make custom motor mounts. Ive kicked it around, I had a 04 lightning I raced, and would love to put it under the hood of my torino.

As far as coil packs? Are you talking about using coi on a vintage ford? I may be wrong but I think ford used EDIS on later model 5.0l explorers up to 2002. If that the case the components might swap, but I'd assume you would need the EEC or fancy wiring skills.

I like different thinking, but a $40 vaccume sounds like a safe cheap solution.

Re: 2 ides

for EDIS you just need the crank sensor, the 35 tooth crank wheel, coil packs, and something to control the spark no ECU needed.

Also as far as putting a 4.6 or 5.4 in what kinda car do you have, anything with a frame will be alot easier, you can get a front sump pan and pickup from a lincoln continental with a 4.6 DOHC in it, people have done the swap motor mounts need to be custom as does alot of other stuff.
