air conditioner

Hey guys, thanks for the help with my exhaust on my torino, however, i decided to take it to the local muffler shop to do it. Anyway, the previous owner for some reason took all the a/c stuff off. So, where can i find a kit or somethig to replace it, i want the modern coolent too. thanks
Moose

Re: air conditioner

I got stuff from Classic Auto Air. They have a firewall forward kit, which comes with a compressor, condenser, filter drier, hoses and fittings, and you can add an expansion valve. I think it is in the $800-900 range for all of this. The hoses have a fitting crimped on one end, and you get loose fittings so you cut the hoses to length and get the fittings crimped on at a local shop. That was the hardest part for me, I was able to get a Car Quest shop to crimp them on reluctantly, and with a disclaimer about the fittings/hoses not being a brand that they sell. I had gone several places until I found anyone willing to do this. Another option would be to get the parts and not the hoses from CAA and get the hoses and fittings locally so you're sure that they can crimp them for you.

Re: air conditioner

NAPA sells and can make/crimp hoses but they don't use the same crimping process as you see on our old cars. I also had problems finding someone that still had the tool to do "old style" crimping but was finally successful. It wasn't cheap, Ha!!
