Torino in field VIN is--

Found this Torino in a "field". It is a blue fastback, bench seat, has Cobra and 428 emblems on the side, and is a 4-speed. Could not get the hood open but engine is in car. Here is the VIN. Will someone provide a breakdown? I'm a Galaxie guy so not familiar with these cars. Thanks in advance

VIN 9A46021649 (last digit might be a 3 or 8).
Data plate difficult to read but what I could make out is:
Color: Y
Axle: V
Trans: 6
DSO: 22
Trim: Not sure but looked like 1B

Most Torinos are bench seat cars, even 4-speeds.

Yup! Cobra's were sold to compete with the Roadrunner. Had to start out with not much but the 428 drivetrain as standard stuff. Had to order bucket seats. And then even had to ask for a console. I had 5 of them at one time in the early '80's.

Re: Torino in field VIN is--

Yes, it could be a "Q" and most likely is. I was cruising around in my Galaxie and a guy stopped to ask me if I was interested in a really rough 69 Torino Cobra Jet 428 with a 4-speed that belongs to his brother. He then told me where it was and to go take a look. He said the price is $4000. However, I'm not interested in restoring another car, especially one as bad this one. Wonder what the engine/transmission alone is worth?

Re: Torino in field VIN is--

The driveline is worth that. Gotta be careful on the engine. It will have to be checked for the bore and crankshaft. No other way to tell if it's really a 428. It could have a very good 9 inch. V code is for a 3.91, should be a Nodular with Daytona support, 31 spline, possibly Locker or Traction Loc. Trans should be a big in-out.

Re: Torino in field VIN is--

Someone please tell me what, about a nasty sitting in a field CJ Q code is worth $4K???

That seems a little steep... Or is it the 428CJ that's the whole deal maker?

Re: Torino in field VIN is--

Dude a 4 speed toploader is worth 1k at least the 9 inch another 250 or so maybe more, the engine if the right one is worth alot also due to being able to use it in mustangs..

Also one bench seat is lighter then two buckets thats why cobras got bench seats
