The only potential issue with this is once you are on the guide studs you can no longer "twist" the tranny to get the splines to line up ...

I've had instances where I just pulled the guide studs and used brute strength because of it being a problem on a given install.

And that is why you keep and extra drive shaft yoke .

And who said you couldn't teach 'NEW DOGS' old tricks. That one's been around awhile, but it is good that you did the write up. I think if everyone did that life would be much easier.

Good catch guys.

I never thought to mention that a spare yoke was beneficial when doing the tranny install. I've always kept a couple around for just for that purpose and as leak preventers when the tranny is not connected to the driveshaft. They are just as useful as the studs that are illustrated. See Figure #5 above.

Cut a slot in the end of stud so you can use a straight blade screwdriver to remove them if the short or stuck.
