Re: C4 to AOD

I have just completed an AOD conversion in my 67, but it revs to 5500 rpm before it will shift. I have adjusted the TV cable in, out, and even disconnected it. It will shift into all four gears but only at high rpm. It once shifted at 4500 rpm from 1st to 2nd, but the TV cable was adjusted all the way out to where it was slack. It shifts at 5500 when disconnected all together, and when it is adjusted in it will not shift at all.
Did you experience anything like this? Could you please describe how you installed your TV cable and adjusted it? Any insight you can provide is very much appreciated!

Re: C4 to AOD

kgordonl -

1. You might have a defective AOD, I dont have details about your transmission, I dont know if it is new, old or rebuild but it is always a possibility.

Without more details about the way you instlled the AOD (such as your T.V pressure with the T.V tool and without it) it is hard to be accurate and you have to work with an oil pressure gauge to get it done properly, but I have a hunch that this will help:

2. The natural position of the AOD lever is backward (to the trunk side), but when you will start the engine, the oil pressure in the transmission will push the lever forward ( to the radiator side ) and it will make the T.V pressure to be in the position of WOT so it will shift in the highest point it can (depending on you valve body on that AOD) like it should in WOT.

I guess you are using the Lokar T.V cable for carb, this is why I wrote I desapointed from it, the return spring that supposed to hold the lever in the close possition (to the trunk side) is not strong enough.
To fix that I fabricated a simple bracket that will hold a throttle spring, the throttle spring need to hold the lever to its closed position and it will open only when when you step on the gas pedal.

I used all the 20 pics I could upload in this thread but if you like, send me your email in a P.M and I will send you a good pic that will show you what I mean.
To verify that you are in the correct spot, you need to see the T.V pressure is 5 PSI or less in park\neutral and you have a rise in the pressure when stepping on the gas pedal.
Again, use the gauge in the T.V port (passenger side) it is very important.

Re: C4 to AOD

Thanks!

I'm not sure if everyone noticed but the article was update and there is a whole new section called "PART 2" it is the part with the T.V cable installation and adjustments...

We though to do it separately but eventually it was added right below the article...

Re: C4 to AOD

Very well written and it should answer a great many questions that have and will be asked on the AOD. Setting the pressure has never been so clearly explained before. Thanks

Re: C4 to AOD

Excellent! Just in time, I'll be putting my AOD in when my 331 comes back from the shop. I was planning on towing to a trans shop but with such a clear write up I may attempt this myself now.
