Great writeup! The little details are the meat. One suggestion - most classic Mustangs use the long rear axle pinion yoke. The more common standard short yoke is 1" shorter and cheap in every boneyard. Just by swapping yokes, you don't have to shorten your driveshaft. Might save time and bucks.

Re: C4 to AOD

im having some problems... ive done everything i can think of in my swap. im working on a 72 gts 302 aod. i have rough shift from 1-2 and when it shifts into 3 it basically goes dead.dont even get a chance to get to o/d. im using the lokar cable and have adjusted it like you guys said. the tranny worked fine in the previous vehicle that it was in(83 crown vic) just the motor died. any help would be greatly appreciated.

More details can help diagnose you problem, what year this aod (83??) ? rebuild? stock? wht t.q do you have?

What do you mean when you say "rough shift from 1-2"??

What do you mean when you say "when it shifts into 3 it basically goes dead"?? dose it feel like neutral and the engine is revving with no response from the AOD?

Try to describe your problem more accurate...

One thing you can do to get a better pic on the aod condition is to check the line pressure (middle port, next to the t.v pressure port), see wht numbers you get in "P", "N", "D" and the gears that dose work.... you can get the numbers here:
TCI - TECHNICAL INFORMATION: Transmission Line Pressure

There are people here that can help you much more then me, try to p.m "Pauls1950"

thankyou for the info very much! thats the problem with aftermarket parts and the people who make and sell them.i think most of em are chevy guys that dont care about fords anyway.everyone goes with chevy cause they are a lot cheeper to build, just remember you get what you pay for, lol. anyway i have a 1929 ford model a and just put a 302 and aod in it and just got the lokar cable in tonight and was lookin for info on how to adjust it out right. i did not know how important it was to have this all hooked up cause in my 1966 fairlane 302 c4 i never had a kick down hooked up and it ran and shifted fine. so thanks again and i'll get her goin in the morning!!!
