Re: Hydraulic clutch in a classic Ford

This set up looks great. Will the new bracket you are designing also work with the 3 speed tranny I have in my 289 67 hard top? This looks like it would cure my current problem of the "Z" bar hitting my Patriot Tri Y headers when engaging the clutch. Thanks.

Awesome article! I'm curious if this will work as well with a power brake car. In the pictures it looks like the clutch master cylinder is really close to the brake master cylinder, and it's hard to tell if a vacuum boosted brake master cylinder would leave enough room.

With a normal power booster the clutch MC needs to be mounted under the dash Like my friend did on his 65 Mustang

I will be putting power brakes on my Galaxie but I will use hydroboost which there is plenty of room for.

Very nice, does a 66 have more room under the dash than a 67/68. I see that vent can going away.
Can you pull the clutch pedal and brake pedal off the assembly under the dash with those bars welded in? I guess with the rollers you dont have to worry about changing bushing etc. I went with the rollers myself.

Re: Hydraulic clutch in a classic Ford

the 65/66 has less room, I think he removed the D-side vent.

Re: Hydraulic clutch in a classic Ford

Hey, had a question here. I just installed the wilwood master cylinder for my clutch, the one for use with remote reservoir. My question is, couldnt you use any type reservoir for this, say something from the boneyard? I just cant see paying $60 plus shipping for one with wilwoods name on it, when it looks to me like any type reservoir and line would work just fine. Any thoughts on that?

Edit: to explain, I bought the wilwood master seperately new/used for the bay $15, not a speedway kit which came with reservoir. The reservoir alone on jegs and summit are $60.

After I installed this in my 56 and attached it to the pedal, I have about 4 inches left before the clutch will hit the floor (no pedal stop). Did you have to create a stop? I can see if I dont, I will push the rod through the master cylinder in the heat of passion.

Re: Hydraulic clutch in a classic Ford

an MC will work as long as it will fit your application as far a space, is 3/4" bore and has at least 1.25" of stroke. If your MC bottoms out 4" before the pedal hits the floor than you do not have the push rod hooked up in the correct ratio on the pedal. You want it mounted high enough on the pedal the at the mounting point you have about 1.25" of travel. this will give the pedal full travel and make the pedal easier to use.

Re: Hydraulic clutch in a classic Ford

Hey daze, thanks for the response. My first question is actually about the remote reservoir. I already have a wilwood master, I just need a reservoir now. Summit and jegs charge $60 just for the reservoir, so why couldnt I just use any reservoir for this instead of buying that one? I do have the 3/4" bore master.

I went and measured just now, its actually about 2-7/8" from bottom of pedal to the floor when all the way in. Here is some pics of my setup....What do you think?

Re: Hydraulic clutch in a classic Ford

yes as long as you can solidly mount it and it does not leek any reserevor should work. The pictures did not work, why don't you emil them to me. dazed@bresnan.net
