Re: Hydraulic clutch in a classic Ford

I got the pictures, thanks. It is exactly as I figured. The push rod is mounted to far down on the pedal.

Yes it may be smooth in its current configuration, but by having the mount so low the pedal effort will by quite high. Levorage is all about trading motion for effort. right now you probably have about 4" of travel which will result in quite a bit of pedal effort. by changing the pedal ratio you will convert more pedal travel in to less pedal effort. When I first did my clutch I hooked mine up with the about the same ratio as you did and it was tough to push. That is why I had to make the triangle piece.

If you look at my picture you can see the hole in the pedal that lines up with the push rod. The new mounting point is much closer to the pivot which is what improves the pedal ratio. Let me know if I can help further.

Re: Hydraulic clutch in a classic Ford

That is Awsome!!! I was just going over the same thoughts you had at the beginning, wondering which method to choose. Now I know the Hydraulics can be done! I'll have to give it a try.
Thanks

Re: Hydraulic clutch in a classic Ford

I really like this youtube video showing an underdash MC. Does this guy have drawings on his design? Was the pivot mechanism in red developed by him too? If I couldn't get drawings, I wonder if he would sell such a thing...???

I have a powerbooster and my cable is melting, I've done research for 6 hours now and stared at the car for a couple trying to come up with something...

Thumbs up Re: Hydraulic clutch in a classic Ford

Lovin' the article. My personal preference it mechanical linkage, but with fewer and fewer donor cars, as well as the cost and difficulty of finding a complete mechanical linkage for cars, its time to face reality and start looking for solutions other than junk yards.

Plus when it comes to vehicles which may not have even had a manual option in the original, it becomes even more important to have examples, models, solutions which have been sucessful to guide the newby and the experience car guy.

Big Thumbs up!!!

Question Re: Hydraulic clutch in a classic Ford

daze,
hows it going with the toploader bracket?
I am looking to be your first customer.

On your MC setup under the dash what parts are hard mounted and what parts move on a fulcrum?
