i never used a fuel additive in my old F250, but then the coldest weather it was ever in was something like 25 degrees F. i did howver make sure my glow plugs were in good shape though, as if they burn out you wont get the engine started in sub 35 degree weather. i did fond however, that if three or four new glow plugs are installed i had no problem starting in temps down to 25 degrees.

I am a heavy equipment mechanic from Mass, born into the fun! Too many customers needlessly called us, for the 4 bucks for a bottle good for 100 gallons, they could have kept it running. But instead, 5-10 miles from their heated garage, they gelled.

The problem isnt starting, and plugging them in just heats coolant, not the fuel in the lines. Once going down the road fuel will gel in the line and you run out of fuel, the newer PSD isnt too bad due to the return fuel being heated by the engine itself and adding some warmth back to the tank, but that first 5-10 miles is a gamble when its cold.

Power Service, you can buy at Walmart is cheap insurance and more than lat, it adds a lubricant for the electro-hydraulic injectors when the winter fuel belnd adds kerosene and has reduced lube capability. Its a good idea across the board. I run it even in Vegas, where I live now, for the lubricity, although I dont run cold weather formula, thats how important keeping the injectors lubed is.

Do yourself a favor and check out www.thedieselstop.com You'll see me there its all PSD
