gas milage

I just bought a new 2004 f250,regular cab 5.4 gas motor.I
think it has a 3:73 gear.Iam getting 14 mpg.on it.I only have
3000 miles right now.Its a 4x4.Does that sound about right
for gas mileage??If so,what would be the one best thing i
could do to improve the gas mileage??Its a go back and forth
to work truck and haul race car vehical.
Thank You

Exhaust. K & N air filter.

They help the engine breath easier. Therefore, it is more efficient. Just about any "less aggressive" modifaction should help. In other words, a 300* duration cam will hurt. lol

I HOPE you didn';t purchase that vehicle with hopes of getting good mileage.
14 is about right for that.
You can tweak a little, (or drive like you've got an egg under your right foot when accelerating), anyway, you can add more free flowing exhaust, and K&N (or whatever), filter, and some other mods, but again, those trucks AREN"T made for mileage.

I have an 02 F250 with the V-10. I was in the 10's for the first 3000 miles. It started to climb into the 11's after that but then winter hit and it came back down as I was in 4x4 more often than not. So I would be willing to bet it will increase slightly. I have heard of 15-16 with that motor. I now average 11.5 all the time. I have seen 12's in the summer just driving back and forth and almost 15 on the freeway on a short 2.5 hour trip. It would probably get better than 15 on an extended trip.(8-10hrs) I know this isn't the same motor, but you can judge how yours may do. Oh, I also have the 3.73 rearend, and this truck has balls!
