ranger 302 or 351?

I have a 92 ext cab ranger.

It has a 351w c6 in it, but its a dog. "8.9 in the 1/8 mile" not bad but not good......I've always wanted better heads and headers for it, but never got around to it.

It has flat top kb hypers, stock heads, 210 dur cam, stealth intake, holley 600vs, and stock van exhaust manifolds.

I finally bought some holley heads, but instead of putting them on the 351 I built a roller 302 to handle nitrous. But now I'm thinking I should put the 302 cam/heads on the 351. I would do that but I'm worried about spraying 150 shot all the time on the 351 kb hypers.

The 302 has forged TRW domes, tfs 245 dur hyd roller cam, holley systamax heads 64cc, vic jr intake.

Should I just put in the nitroused 302 and buy some headers to finish the truck? OR should I put the holley heads and tfs cam and N20 on the 351w "hoping it wont melt those kb's" and buy some headers to finish it? If I keep the 351 I'll need different roller lifters right?

Looks like I'll put in the 302. It might not make as much power, but I wont have to worry about those crappy KB pistons. Should wieght less too

Those "crappy" KB pistons are more than strong enough to handle what you want. I ran a 351W for years using the KB pistons running 9.50s at 140+ on the juice. They held up fine and I have them in my new stroker too. Mid 10s but should get easy low 10s off the bottle then once tuned I'll put my fogger on. I'm not afraid of the KBs at modest(300 shot or less) nitrous levels. Been using them since the early 90s. Get that top ring gap opened up to .032" or so and spray our heart out. Don' go the 302 route when you got a perfectly good and much stronger 351W already in there. Put the heads and cam in the 351W

Can you give me info on your engine install.
I have an 88 Ranger 2.3 manual trans in which the trans is stuck between gears, needs a clutch, and the engine leaks oil
real bad.
I also have an 80 E150 with a 351W 60 over and C6. The body is really getting rusty and I'm leary of the frame.
I've been to www.Therangerstation.com website and everything there advises against using a 351 or c6.
Do you have pics and details? What was the changerover
cost, how long did it take? etc.
Dave

you can even go with a 429/460 if you want, but the 302 fits in nicely. The 351 is a little wider than the 302 so headers/manifolds will hit the frame rails. My orignal swap was 69 302,T-18 4spd with a NP205(wicked heavy). Then i changed tranny and t-case to a C5 and stock t-case and lost 200lbs.
Motor mounts-4cyl ones with adapter plates
rear cross member-4cyl one
front drive shaft-stock one
rear drive shaft stock one
relocate your oil filter
small fuel pump(i think i used the LTD one)
find a 79/80 LTD with a 302,It has all the brackets for your stock PS and ALT(4cyl has serpentine belt,V6 has V belt) also has the throtle cable, crank pully(serpentine),water pump(aluminum) and pully.
For exhaust i uesd the stock 69 van(thats what the engine came out of) manifolds and Y pipe.Bolted right in.Later i cut the Y pipe and made duals.I'll post some pics later
