possible effie project

[img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif[/img]i am thinking about building a 53-56 F100, and was wondering if anyone has done, or has thought of doing a diesel swap in that generation of truck? i was thinking perhaps the cummings six. any thoughts?

There you go ... all we need is a bunch of Effie's running around sounding like washing machines [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif[/img]

Actually, that is a great thought ... I plan to set Queenie's Effie up for towing so a diesel would be a great thought there for us.

[img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif[/img]the only real problem i foresee is weight. both the cummins, and the navistar run right around 900lbs. if i could find one, a six cylinder perkins diesel would be lighter, about the weight of a 460, and with a turbo just as powerfull.

At last year's Back to the 50s in St. Paul, there was a guy running a 53 International Harvestor on a 80s Chevy pickup truck frame, running the 6.2 diesel. Had some kind of overdrive on it and claimed 25 mpg towing his camper. Is there a newer frame that fits under the 50s Ford? Might be simpler than dropping a diesel onto the old frame and suspension.
