351W into 79 truck - what motor mts

I am putting a 351W into a 1979 F150. What motor Mts will I need. I have the original 302 mts and a set of 351M mts. Also The crossmember I have says "4 speed" on it. I will be putting in a C6. Do I need another crossmember? Any help would be appriciated. I am also putting on a wood stake body. Anyone out there have any ideas or prints I can look over?

Same as above post, they should work. The only suggestion I have is about the front cross-member just under the front of the tranny. Not sure if it's the same on yours as mine but here goes. On standard drive trannies the front member is most of the time rivited in. You will need to grind out the rivits so you can remove that crossmember to get the C-6 in. On 67-72's you cannot get a C-6 into the tunnle without removing that crossmember.
On the drive shaft, if your does'nt fit due to length hit the junk yards with a tape measure. Alot of those trucks came with C-6's in them so finding the right length should'nt be a problem. Are you gonna use a floor shifter or are you gonna change out your column. If your colum is for power-steering already it may be worth alittle on Ebay. power-steering automatic columns are also easy to find. Yours with the shifter delete is harder to come by. Hope I got everything right.

My '93 351W went right into my '78 truck with the 302 motor mounts and the same C-6 and torque converter and flexplate that were on the original, 302 with no modifications.
And I used a late model gear reduction starter, just had to change some of the wiring at the fender mounted solenoid and starter.

And I used the same crossmember with no modifications.

Was your front crossmember revited in? Did you need to remove it to get the C-6 in? That's all I was saying. On my 71 I had to remove that crossmember to get the c-6 in and put it back in afterwards. You will need to be careful of which flex plate you use as the 351W is 28 oz imbalance and the later 302's are 50 oz.
Everything else is pretty much a bolt in deal, Headers may be a problem as the 351 is taller and wider

The only rivited crossmember I ever had to remove was to pull the trans out with a 460 in a '69 model, decided not to. You should have no problems getting it in without dropping the rivited member. You should try a 460 in a '66

I really appriciate the feedback. It is getting harder and harder for me to do auto work because of arthritis and combat disabilities. This will be my last project. 79 F150 with blown 392 with wood stake body deck.

stevefretz...if you're using a car motor, you'll want to put a drain on the front of the oil pan. Otherwise, the oil drains out on top of the front cross-member.
