87 ranger....help!

hey! i just bought an 87 ranger w/ a 2.9 V6 needs some work but the thing that is stupin me is u can drive it fine for 20 min then it dies and u gota floor it to get it running again. i havent had time to cheek un der the hood so if u could give me some advice as to were to start lookin that would be awsome! thank banit

87 ranger....help!

They were notorious for the fuel pressure regulator's diaphragm taking a dump. Also, (if that's not bad), ck and see if the 02 sensor is working. Older ones would show lean, forcing pcm to make engine rich. It'd run rich enough that it'd basically flood out, leading to that condition also.
Basic state of tune of engine? Plugged cats? Lots of things can lead up to it.
