1984 300 6cyl.

I have a '84 F-150 4x4 with a 300 6 cyl. i am getting awful gas mileage. Performance is great, i just can't drive past a gas station. 173miles to a tank of gas(19 gallon tank.) It is a new tank and i have no leaks. Anyone with suggestions? I am open to any idea.

Thanks

It could be any number of things. I'd check the air filter, carb (overflowing?), timing, etc. Those 4.9 inlines don't get very good mileage...12-15 is the norm, but your mileage simply sucks. Another thing to check is the carb...it's common for them to come loose from the manifold and that causes all sorts of problems.

HI
Yeoww. Landscapping with a 6cyl. Your killing the motor towing that weight. You need a 460 loads of tq and hp. for pulling that trailer of goodies..

Actually I'm getting 9MPG w/ my 1992 carbed, 2WD A/T 300 Bronco (Venezuelan version) so don't feel bad, I've been trying to figure out a solution, some say rear gears, some engine swap for everything else has been checked...

A 460 sounds really great. How much trouble will it be to swap? I know that I will have to change frame mounts and flywheel, but can I still use the same bellhousing? Whatis the best gear ratio to run with this set-up. Any suggestions are great to me, espically when they will benefit my cause.

Thanks for the great tips everyone. This forum has been very helpful answering some of my questions.
