Runs great in idle, wants to die in gear...
I have been tinkering with my truck for a long time, trying to get it in running conditon after sitting for a long time. It's a .020 over factroy rebuit, for an 85 Bronco (Fullsize) backed up by a C6. Anyhow, I took off the 2 barrel, and added a 4 barrel Ford factory aluminum intake manifold and an autolite 4100 4 barrel (600cfm) and a 268 duration cam from summit. As far as my choice of add ons, I just wanted to wake her up a littel bit, but still be a good driver, which is why I went with the 4100...reliable, and the mild cam. So anyway, it idles beautifully, a touch high, but not unbearable to deal with. I think I have a vaccum leak, becuase when you hit the throttle she gives a bit of hesitation.
But the real problem happened today when I put her into drive. First the engine wanted to stall out, and then started pinging, hit the gas pedal, and she fights to stay running. If I take it back into nuetral or park, she goes right back to running beautiful.
Like I said I think there is a small vaccum leak somewhere, but would that be the culprit in the case of her wanting to die in gear, but still run beautiful in park??? I don't remember the exact amount of advance the cam was installed with, but I remember it was near the stock settings.
Any ideas as to waht is going on here?? Thanks all for any help! I also posyed this in the all ford tech section, so please bear with me if this post looks familar
