SOMEONE PLEASE HELP
I BOUGHT A F-250 SUPER CAB 4X4 WITH MANUAL TRANS. THE TRUCK HAS SOME PROBLEMS ONE OF WITCH WAS CRACKED EXT. MANIFOLDS AND BROKEN BOLTS. I REPLACED WITH A SET OF SMOG LEAGEL SHORTY HEADERS FROM HEADMAN. HEADERS FOR MY TRUCK WELL THERE WAS NOT MUTCH TO CHOSE FROM. IT HAD THE EGR PORT. AFTER GETTING THEM PUT ON (WITCH WAS NOT EASY) IT SOUNDED GREAT AND RAN GREAT UNTILL I TOOK IT OUT ON THE HIWAY I NOTICED IT LAGED KIND OF LIKE A CARB COUGHING IT WOULD LAG AND GO LAG AND GO. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER IT SHOWED LOW VOLTAGE TO THE EGR. A BUDDY OF MINE AT THE SHOP ASKED ME IF IT WAS DOING IT BEFORE THE HEADERS I TOLD HIM WHO COULD TELL WITH ALL THE NOISE. HE TOLD ME TO TRY BLOCKING OFF THE EGR AND SEE IF IT WOULD RUN BETTER. I DID AND IT RUNS BAD IT LAGS AND GOES SO BAD YOU CAN FEEL IT IN THE DRIVE SHAFT. THE TRUCK HAS HAD NO REAL MANTIANCE WHEN I REPLACES THE MANIFOLDS I REPLACED THE PLUGS WIRES ROTOR AND CAP WITCH WHERE ALL FACTORY. SO MY QUESTION IS DO YOU THINK ITS THE EGR OR MAYBE SOMETHING ELSE MY BUDDYS IDEA IS WHEN I REPLACED THE MANIFOLDS IT CHANGED THE BACHPRESSURE AND OPENING THE EGR EASIER SO I NEED TO GO BACK TO STOCK BUT HEADMAN SAID IT SHOULDN'T HIRT THE EGR. ANY IDEAS THANK YOU JAY

Are you getting good flow out the mufflers and cat? Is the catalytic converter plugged, or even still on?

HAD THE CAT. PRESSURE TESTED IT WAS FINE AND ALSO THE MUFFLER. I TALKED WITH THE COMPANY WHO SOLD THE HEADERS TO ME AND HE THOUGHT IT SOUNDED LIKE FUEL. I'M JUST TRYING TO COVER ALL THE BASES SO I DON'T START THROUGHING PARTS AT IT. THANKS FOR YOUR IDEA JAY

I believe you're loosing fuel somewhere. Sounds like it's tunning dry and filling and running dry... Check for restrictions in fuel delivery line... I'll bet that's where you find the problem, be it injected, throttle body or carburetor.

When I swchanged out my stock manifolds for full Heddmans
on my 351W van and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust and didn't have any problems with the EGR. As a matter of fact I changed manifolds and went to a (now forsale) performer w/without the EGR and didn't have any problems.
Are you sure you got the wires on right?
Dave

Worked on an injected 86 F-150 acted like what you are describing, would cruise fine but if you tried to step on it much it would start bucking and jerking till you let up. Fuel filter was plugged.

WELL I CHANGED THE FUEL FILTER AND WENT AHEAD AND REPLACED THE EGR AND TOOK IT OUT ON THE HIWAY IT DID GREAT THE FIRST PASS I TURNED AROUND TO GO BACK HOME AND IT STARTED DOING THE SAME THING IT'S GOT ME BEAT. I ALSO STARTED DUMPING IN FUEL INJECTION CLEANER IN THE TANK THE FUEL LINES AS FAR AS I CAN TELL ARE GOOD. JAY

Jay, the crossed wire will do it all the time and not intermittently... But your Firing order is.... 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 for the windsor motor... and 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 for the big one the Modified 400 I think. Won't be sure till I know what motor you have and what year the truck is...

I wasn't paying attention to the Windsor part.... The Modified is the other firing order though...
