86 F150 mods

I know this site is probably aimed more at cars but i got some questions that i am sure you guys could answer
i have 86 F150 5.0 EFI 4 speed 4x4(less that 20k on OH
here are a list of possible things that i want to do to it
please tell me which ones i can do with out throwing my computer into a hissy fit
1. Home port the heads my self after educating myself
2. 1.7 roller rockers
3. shorty headers
4. cam change (crane truckpower, crane compucam, FRPP

i have the old speed density system and don't think i can spend the 600 some bucks for the mass air conversion kit
anybody who has tried these up grades on the old SD system know what works and what doesn't
keep in mind this is a pickup and is used for pulling occasionally so i don't want to sacrafice low end torque
any in put would be helpful
also i have been told you have to get a custom burnt chip for some mods, do they work, whats a good brand, how do i get one,
p.s. when porting will opening the exhaust ports lose my low end if i have true dual 2" exhaust with glass packs only
thanks a lot sorry about all the ? but i don't have much money since i am going to school and don't want to waste on mods that aren't worth it.

Basically anything you can do that will not affect vacuum (or is it manifold pressure??LOL) for the most part will not throw the computer "into a hissy." Exhaust, intake, etc...from what I've seen/read/experienced, they're pretty limited. Also, there is no amount of aftermarket stuff that will provide more low end torque on a 5.0L truck motor. The factory did a good job of it, FYI. Headers help some, good intake (Edelbrock I believe makes a upper/lower for trucks as well as a TB), and believe it or not, rear end gears are the biggest bang for the buck...especially on an automatic-equipped truck.

I've been toying with "playing" with my '95 5.0 5 speed. Probably should leave it alone, but I hate the lack of power..especially in the 100 deg heat. Wish it was a 5.8.
