Dome Light Saying On (1999 Ford Ranger Extra Cab)

The dome light on my 1999 Ford Ranger Extra Cab XLT truck will not turn off. I have sprayed WD-40 on the door latches and the "Door Open" light is NOT on.

When I turn off and lock up the truck the light stays on for about 1 to 1-1/2 hours. After it turs off it will stay off until I open up the truck doors. It does not turn off while I am driving.

Any help will be appreciated.

Note: In the past I had the same problem, but spraying WD-40 on the door latches fixed it.

One of your door ajar switches is faulty. More then likely the drivers door. EAsy enough to replace. EASier to test. (got a scan tool?, like a ngs?)

Anyway, switches are like 15 bucks (give or take), and I believe labor might be .5 tenths, or so to install.

Good luck, have fun.

Had the same problem with a F150, it was the door button/switch.

My 03 Expedition is doing the same thing...but, I'm getting a door ajar message. I'll check the switches.

I have usedca little WD40 to free the switches up. It is not a permanent fix but seems to last quite a while. The little button on the switch builds up with dirt and dust causing it to stick. I have sprayed them down and it cleans and lubes them. Then all need be done is spray the switches every now and then.

Hhmm, bit of a common Ford issue. One of my co-workers has a bad switch on her Windstar too.
