FM just picked up a 1989 F-150 5.0L...

I have a 1989 F150 ,302,AOD 171000 miles with theses mods...Jacobs Milage master with ceramic boots and DEI boot protectors,K&N,edelbrock ceramic headers, Gibson 3" Stainless cat back system, cold air intake box(came stock on F250's as i recall).
Not sure how to add photos to this post but uploaded some photos some where.........
How about doing a head upgrade, rocker arms? Also would like to see a cam swap to a hydralic roller cam like the H.O. 5.0 engine's.
I was thinking of 'Power heads" http://www.powerheads.com/SB50.html or AFR 165 heads.
Also i think the 1989 F150 came with hydralic flat tappet cam(not the roller cam) and bank to bank injection and not sequential electronic fuel injection system.................

The headers and 3" cat back did help. I tow a 18' travel trailer guessing about 4500-5000lb and it needs all the help it can get.The motor is getting tired but sure runs good and idle's very smooth.Just takes longer now to get up to speed towing and not towing.Hope ford Muscle puts on a set of heads(hope Power heads) and rocker arms and change out to a roller cam like in the HO 5.0 mustang.I understand that speed density system you need good vacuum at idle or it will run poorly!

Well...actually, with speed-density, ANY vacuum that is lower than what it originally was will confuse the computer. That's why vacuum leaks are such a pain, especially with speed density. They cause vacuum readings at the MAP sensor to be slightly off, which tells the computer that it's under a slight load....but the TPS "says" it's not under load and that's what causes idling problems.

What helped me understand the major running differences between SD and MAF is that SD relies heavily on the MAP sensor and TPS signals where MAF relies more on the MAF (duh!) and TPS.

'Course then we had VAM's back in the early era of ford fuel injection....but we won't go there!
