Just curious....what kind of modifications were necessary to mount the Galaxie steering column?

The Galaxie column was pretty straightforward. I had to drill out the spot welds that held the mounting bracket to the factory column, and re-weld it to the Gal column. The Gal shift lever (on the steering box end) comes out at the wrong angle, so I had to cut it off and weld it back on at the right clock position. Other than that, just transfer the floor seal over and you're golden. They both use the same rag joint to connect to the steering box. It actually looks very clean and stock/original. The only visible difference is the hazard light knob on the Gal column, which I consider to be a nice feature.

The truck was converted to an auto trans and power steering from a mid 70's Ford p/u by a previous owner. They 'adapted' the mid 70's column also, which looked really out of place because of the plastic shroud that didn't fit the dash. I was in need of an earlier model column shift auto trans column, and the Gal unit was what I had lying around. Its about 1/2" shorter than the factory column when its all said and done, not noticeable at all. It seems to be really hard to find a auto trans column for these old trucks. I guess not many folks wanted an auto in their trucks back then.

nice truck, could you not fit headers or did you just not want them?

didn't really want or need them. The engine is just a stock 351W from a 77 Lincoln. I added a stealth intake, 600 holley, and a double roller timing chain. The manifolds are some of the better factory pieces, more like a cast iron shorty header, like the K code mustang manifolds. It seems to run pretty good.

I wish I could update. Truck is still at the body shop. Going on 4 months . I stop by there every week, they're working on it, but man is it slow. They have the whole thing primed and are fitting the doors/etc right now. Should be blocking it down next week, then paint. I will post painted pics as soon as I get it back, then again when its assembled. Stay tuned!
