1996 F-250 460 needs help

I have a 96 F-250 with a 460 motor and auto trans with about 60,000 miles on it. I have changed the exhaust to a flowmaster and the air filter to K&N. The truck just seems dead with no power and the trans is shifting way to much. I'm only getting 7-8 mpg. I've had it checked out by numerous mechanics that tell me everything looks ok. I have been very disapointed with the power and the gas mileage that I'm getting out ot the truck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Does it still have the catalytic converters? Might be plugged, which will cause low mileage and piss poor power. Those 460's never got much more than 12 mpg, loaded or not...but are definetly workhorses. Also might be worth checking for retarded ignition timing.

If yours has the dual air intakes that look like radiator hoses, follow them to the first joint, take the clamps off

Inside there is a trumpet (after you take the hose off) You wont believe how small it is, for silencing in the vans

Cut if off with a hacksaw, put the hoses back on the way they were, and you'll be amazed. In the very least, if you like 1-2 mpg more you'll get it, with no ill effects, but you also see a pile of mid and upper end.

I cant believe Ford did that back then

Tell me in detail about your exhaust system. Also those cats work better with 3.5" pipe out the back. I have gotten 16mpg out of my '91 F250 with the 7.5L and it is 4x4
