99 Explorer Overdrive light flashing

Hello,

My wife called me on her way into work this morning and tells me that the overdrive light on her Explorer (1999, 4WD, 5-speed auto) is flashing. What does this mean, and what should I do?

Thanks,

Mike

Off hand, I would assume there is a problem. Any idea if the trans was shuddering, slipping, etc? low or high miles?
the PCM {computer} is probably kicking out a warning something is not right.
If you go to an autozone, advanced, etc parts store, use their code scanner, and it should pin point the issue.
Could be a sensor, or could a blown gasket, hard to say without scanning for code.
When was the last time it was serviced? Rule of thumb with my stuff 2 years for complete trans flush, not just a filter swap and draining the pan.
Hope that helps.

Tranny was shot. I can't understand why...I only got 243,000 miles out of it. New one being installed today, and NOT for the $3400 that Ford wanted.

Damn trannys go out after almost 250K. Too bad somebody cant learn to build a good tranny. I had a new one put in my 96 chrysler car last year, around 100k and its ready for a new one already. Damn mopar.
