How is the new Ford Ranger?

I'm looking into buying a new ford ranger and I see they offer 3 different powerplants. A couple of inline 4's and a 4.0L V6. Is there a better motor to go with? I'm going to get the truck with a manual transmission. Is there anything else I should look out for? How mechanically sound are these trucks? I'm going to a dealer today after work and I know if I asked the salesman he's gonna give me a load of bull.

Thanks,
Erik

4.0L are good, but not as bulletproof as the newer 2.3L PZEV engine. If you are going to tow anything I would buy a 4.0L. The 4.0s don`t get very good mileage, but much more power.
