Carbuerator Opinions Wanted!

Want to get anyones/everyones opinions, preferences and resoning between an Edelbrock perfromer 600cfm, 470 cfm, Holley double pumper 600cfm, and the Demon 600 series carbs. I currently have a edelbrock performer series 600cfm on my 351modified, but am looking to change it up. Just wants some other opinions.

79' F150 4x4. has a c-6, gearing is stock right now. 44 front, 9in rear. Engine is pretty much stock except ignition upgrades, headers, full exhaust, and the current edelbrock performer series 600cfm carb thats on it right now. I looking for a great streetable carb but also allows great off roading and light towing/hauling capability. thanks.

That carb you already have is a real good carb for your application. What is the reason for chaging it? You will only gain 10 - 15 HP max with a carb change. If your engine does not feel like it is running correctly, then I suggest spending $55.00 on a tuning kit, instead of $500.00 on a new carb, and the folks here will help you tune your carb.

The main reason that I ask is that my friend has a 400 in his 78' ford F250 and he just switched to the demon carb from a Holley and he loves it. But he didnt really give me any reasoning behind his switch. So I figured that I would ask here and see what people thought. thanks for the advice.

I agree with the recommendation above, you have a well matched setup, I dont think you'll gain anything and only lose cash with a carb swap

Well, I have a 1979 F150, and around a year and a half back I had to do the heads after I lost a head gasket.
I was running the original 2 barrel and upgraded with a new #1406 600cfm performer and a used $40 edelbrock torker intake.
The intake is not best choice but the old beast runs down the road nice, and I get better mpg than I did with the 2 barrel...until I put my foot into it, that is. I'd like to upgrade to a 5 speed from a 3/4 or one ton 460 truck, but at that point, I would go with the full tilt 460efi and 5 speed, but I don't think for plowing the 5 speed is worth messing with.
If you are running a 351M/400, you honestly can't expect to get 20mpg with the C6.
Depending on the usage on the carb, a rebuild might be in order.
I know when I am pulling my car trailer, she runs fine down the road.

On my 351M (remanufact. May 2007) I went from a Holley 2300 (500 cfm) 2 bbl to a Motorcraft 2150 2 bbl (approx 400 cfm) to a Holley 4160 4 Bbl on Edelbrock Performer intake then finally to an Edelbrock 1806 (600 cfm) 4 Bbl. I was wanting performance, but Holleys proved unreliable. Stay with your Edelbrock for driveability, tweak its tuning for performance, and keep the $$$. Just my $0.02 worth.......

Re: Carbuerator Opinions Wanted!

I have had good reports from a buddy of mine on the Holley Truck Avenger. He is is running a 570 on a "gasp" small block chev and seems to like it. No account for some peoples taste.
