Usable Truck Motor

Hey I was just looking for your two cents on a motor selection. I was wondering what would be a more usable all around motor that doesnt mind idling or pulling a little while giving me more (much) power.

I have a 289.

Thinking of 347 stroker with iron World heads
or
Centerfugal Supercharger non intercooled
or
Stock rebuild (pretty much) with forged pistons and NOS

What whould be the best engine for a 3000 lb Truck?

DC

I am partial to 351W motors, have had a lot of luck with stock build motors in pickups. I had one in my 79 f150 and had no lack of power with a loaded bed and pulling a loaded car trailer. No experience with stroker motors though.

I was tryin to use my 289 block because I have lots of accessories that I cannot use. Ive heard the 347 makes much more power than the Windsor because it has almost as long of a stroke but has 25lbs less rotating mass. I could have a 347 with Steel Crank and I beam rods with forged pistons for the same price I could change everything over to a Windsor for. My motor is in a toyota truck so the smaller motor is nice too. Speak up people =)

Been a while since I read up on the 347, but at one time there was some concern about longevity due to rod angles and ring problems. You could also do the 331 stroker which would still yield more torque and hp and possibly be more long lived...again I'm no pro.

Go with a 390 or stroke a 360 and all will be well with extra to spare....
