C6 kickdown lever adjustment

Anybody know the proper procedure for setting up the kick down lever on the 77 f250 C6 460?

I put on a 700cfm Edelbrock and would like to set up the lever properly.

Re: C6 kickdown lever adjustment

You want the lever to be at its full travel under wide open throttle. Thats it!

Re: C6 kickdown lever adjustment

Thanks for the response. The manual is very confusing on this adjustment. They say to put a .060 spacer between the adjustment screw and the throttle plate at full throttle and adjust the screw until it just touches the spacer. If you did that the kickdown lever wouldn't even activate.

I did find another site that said to set it so that there was a little play left in the kickdown lever at wide open throttle. I am going to set it that way and see if the kickdown responds ok. If not I will play with it until I get it right.

I set it up with a little play in it at the full throttle position. About the .060 that the book talks about. It seem to work perfect. They just don't explain the procedure very well.

Re: C6 kickdown lever adjustment

On my Holley VS carb I used the stock C6 rod and put a larger pan head bolt on the carb kickdown lever. Then I used a medium spring over the bolt and double nutted it over the lever. That way I can adjust it and still always get full throttle.

Re: C6 kickdown lever adjustment

The reason I posted this thread was to bring up the question of the proper procedure for adjusting the kickdown lever.

If you read the manual it states to open the throttle to wide open position and put a .060 spacer between the kickdown lever adjusting screw and the throttle and turn the adjusting screw until it just touches the kickdown lever. If you did it like the manual states the kickdown lever would never activate because the kickdown lever would need another .060 to even touch the throttle in the full throttle position.

They never mention the fact that the kickdown lever needs to be fully activated. It would have been a lot clearer if they had stated to back the fully activated kickdown lever with the throttle at wide open position by .060. Then I would have understood what they were saying.

I bought the Edelbrock 1483 adapter and bolted it right up to my 750cfm Edelbrock carb. I had to bend my throttle lever over to make up for the extra width created by the adapter, otherwise everything else just plugged in. I adjusted the kickdown lever to full on with the throttle wide open and then backed it down .060 and it seems to work great.
