'86 2.9 hesitation after battery disconn.

Every time I disconnect my battery on my '86 Ranger, it gets a dead spot or hesitation just off idle. It eventually straightens itself out but this last time it didn't. Is there anything you need to do upon reconnecting the battery to avoid this problem ?

Sure. Stop Disconnecting the battery! SHEESH Already!

OK, what you have as a hard learning issue with your computer...

Cycle your key to the run position and let it sit for about 1 minute a couple times, without starting it.

If that don't work, see suggestion one.... Or check your IAC motor if your model has one...

Or do what Kultuz say's...

Re: '86 2.9 hesitation after battery disconn.

When you disconnect the BAT on a EEC-IV/EEC-V application, the ECM/PCM forgets it's last learned fuel curve (it is always adapting to new engine conditions) and may take a few miles to re-learn and adapt.

If the tip-in doesn't correct itself, scan the ECM.

Times 2 for checking TP voltage. I bet you will have a dead spot at tip in, Where the sensor spent most of its life.
