Talking trany swap c-4 to aod

I have a 1982 f100 with a 86 5.0lsb, and a C-4 or 6 tranny. I was wondering how hard it would be to put a Aod in? Also what aod do I need one form a mustang,vic,90s f150? My reason for the swap is I need to get better gas milage. Any info on this swap would be very appriciated.

I would try salvage yard that had the whole truck and take all the parts from the block back to the rear end, shifter,start/reverse switch wiring, cooler lines ect. Throttle adjustment on the kick down rod is critical on aod's to keep from burning them up. It controls transmission pressure, and has to follow throttle movement from idle to wide open.

I second the transmission kickdown cable importance, but it should be a farely easy swap. All it consists of is the transmission, torque converter, throttle bracket, shifter on the column or I think some companies (Lokar maybe) makes a floor shift setup. Like the previous poster said you should find a donor in a junk yard and just take the whole setup.

Ok could I use a TCI aod that has a manual valve body, and floor shift it?

Then all I would need is a torque converter? or would I need a different speed -O cable?

Re: trany swap c-4 to aod

I reread that your engine is an 86, I have used the aod flexplate with the C-4 and it fits ok, but if you have a C-6 I don't think you can use the flexplate. You need a block plate or spacer plate that goes between the block and trans that matches trans and a flexplate that will match your engine balance and trans. I think the aod bellhousing bolts are longer on top than the other trans. I don't have any experiance with the manual valve body but would think it would be tiresome for everyday use. Speedo cable should be ok.

You gotta use the TV cable set-up. Its different than a kick-down rod. It regulates line pressure based on position. Very critical to transmission life. Besides, the manual shifter would be OD, D, and L. Shouldn't be a hard swap if you have a C-4.
