89 F150

I have an 89 F150 much like the Big ugly work truck project vehicle. I'm in the parts collecting stage of a little souping up to the old girl, having gotten a better ignition module and coil, K&N FIPK , shorty headers, I was thinking of getting a set of GT40 heads or of porting a set of E7te heads, and maybe adding an Explorer or other intake. I want to get all I can from it with bolt on stufff. The engine was rebuilt with a .030 over boring and new pistons 150 K ago, uses very little oil between changes, and runs slick as a whistle. I dont plan on turning it over 4500 rpm. Any opinions on how this will all work ?

Re: 89 F150

First off the F150 K&N will not work with the Explore Intakes, they use a single venturi throttle body while yours should be dual venturi. GT-40 heads might be less of a headache then getting someone to port your E7 heads, unless you or someone you know is good at porting. Headers and dual exhuast (with high-flow cats or no-cats) is a must if want to get the full breathing potential out of your heads. Of course you can always do the mass air conversion which will help your trucks performance. If you have any other questions you can PM me.

Re: 89 F150

Hi Blue, I got the coil and module , wires and the FIPK on , and have the headers in the toolbox. Will be after christmas for the heads and header job. Saw a set of GT40's in the paper a week ago, said 500 OBO. I figure 400 should get me a set later on. The upgrades so far have made a noticable diferrence. A little more power and pep. TY for the reply.
