I'm new here

My son recently joined the Navy. Before he left he wanted to do something nice for each of the members of the family. I spent most of my life in Iowa, and when I was there I restored Chevy Impalas (can I say that on a Ford forum?). I had to sell them before moving to Alaska. Back to my son, he could have got me a nice truck, but he knew how much I enjoyed tinkering with old cars. He found a 79 Ford 1/2 ton F150 4X4. I'm not familiar with Fords of this era. I had a 69 Ford Galaxie 500 XL GT hardtop with a 429, and a 72 Galaxie 2 door hardtop that was basic. My first car was a 46 Ford 2 door sedan with a flathead 6 in it. I also had a 56 Ford 4 door hartop that had a factory continental kit and skirts on it. Over a nearly 40 year period that's not much knowledge for me to fall back on. This pickup has a 351W engine in it. My 72 had a 351C. I can find considerable information on the C engine, but the W is severely lacking. This truck has a 2V carb and I would like to change that to a 4V, and I want to do some chroming on the engine. I don't want to do a major performance upgrade, just cosmetic. What reliability issues will I run into with this truck? What other issues will I run into with it?

The only issue with that truck is the egr areas in the intake get plugged up as easily as a 305 chevy...

Good strong and long lasting motor if you keep the fuel and oil clean...
