1960 F100 4X4 Chassis Restoration

Hi all,

I'm going to start the restoration of a 1960 F100 4X4 chassis soon. I was just planning on a sandblast and repaint but I then noticed how much the thing flexes. It looks like the whole chassis is put together with rivets. I'm afraid that if I just sandblast and repaint, I'll start to notice problem areas around crossmember connection points. What have some of you guys done in the past and how well does it hold up? Is there some sort of flexible product that moves with the chassis flex? Do I just forget about it? I've never restored a body on chassis type vehicle before. All the unibody cars I've done don't normally have a problem like this.
Thanks for the help,

Nick

The old frames were pretty twisty. Not a lot there, and they are veyr light duty compared to a modern pickup

However, if the metal isnt rusted away to nothing, you sure shouldnt need flex agent.

Just use a quality acrylic enamel or urethane paint it'll do just fine. If it flexes enough to crack the paint you'll be bending body panels anyway

You will NEVER need a flex additive on a frame for a car or truck. Flex additives are for pieces of metal and or paint that actively can be flexed in and out.

You're good to go.
