Replacing The Weather-Stripping

I have a '78 bronco and badly need to replace the weather stripping. I usually like to do any "simple work" i can on my own, but I have heard this can really be a pain in the arse. any recommendations on whether i should just pay to have a professional do the work or is this something that I have all wrong and should be able to do myself?

thanks

Re: Replacing The Weather-Stripping

well if your taking about the door seals, they are a peice of cake. I have replaced them on my 83 bronco. they just slip around the pinch weld of the door opening.

The tailgate weather stripping is just as easy. just some screws that hold the upper glass run into place.

i've replaced alot of weather stripping on my bronco, none of it has been really hard. It makes the interior way quieter and no wind noise, also the doors and tailgate don't rattle when you close them. The only weather stripping that u need to leave to the professionals is the windsheild calking.

check that site out for almost everything. they have good prices.
Jeffs bronco graveyard or lmc truck has alot also.

Re: Replacing The Weather-Stripping

thanks broncodude! thats funny that you mentioned the wind-noise...thats exactly why i needed to replace the weather stripping (and for the fact that the passenger-side window never rolls up right). I looked for the pinch-welds and it looks like there are little slits for clips (?) from the weather strips to be secured by (?). And did you have to remove portions of your door panels? I think the process will be much easier if I go that route. Thanks again, appreciate the help!

Re: Replacing The Weather-Stripping

if you are talking about the window weatherstrip then you will have to take the door panel off, i just pop rivited the weatherstrip that hangs on the door panel. but on the other side there are little clips that hold it to the door.

is this the weather stripping your speaking of?
