Collum shifter coller

HI ALL
The shifter Coller on my 61 comet is broke at the socket. (Parts the same as a Falcon part number of # C0DZ-7228-A). I have a 72 F-100 That I'm not useing the coller on well it fit my Comet or shall I say is it the same Number as above?
Thanks
Tim

Wish I had joined the forum earlier and seen your post earlier. If the part #'s are identical, so are the parts.

Re: Collum shifter coller

He's wondering if they are the same...

My 3 speed shifter arm is beginning to hollow out the retaining pin holes...

I saw a threaded thingamobobber on a 62 one day last year in a parking lot holding the shift arm in place...

Anyone know what it was and where I can get one ??

Duh,-Yeah, I re-read the question and I would imagine that the truck has a D2TZ-7228 in it. For some reason I thought he said the part #'s were the same. I have no idea whether they will interchange, but a quick phone call to your freindly neighborhood boneyard will yield a definitive answer, as those guys make their living with parts interchanges. And I do know exactly what you call that thingamobobber you saw on that 62, and I know where you can get one. They have a pretty technical name and if I told you it would probably just confuse you , and they are only available through a few specialty shops like ACE hardware and Home Depot. You are in luck though, as I just happen to have a box of NOS thingamobobbers in my garage. I can let one go for $25.00 and 12.50 shipping. How many would you like?

Re: Collum shifter coller

Maybe I don't know what you were talking about. I thought the technical name was screw, which is inserted into the wallowed out hole. Depending on the type used , it may or may not require the use of a nut. Sometimes thingamabobs are installed incorrectly causing the nub of the shift collar(where the pin goes through) to crack into 2 pieces. This is when you need a do-hickey. These technical wonders are also atractive bling-blings as they are chrome plated looking. They have a slotted band with an adjustment device (similar to a worm drive) that can be adjusted with either a slotted screwdriver or pliers or a socket. They are a direct fit that slips right over the broken nub and restores integrity when tightened. The good news is that I happen to have some of these in stock. (These are becoming harder to find with the newer slip hose fittings out there.) The bad news is these are not quite as affordable as the thingamabobs. For you , I may be able to make a deal.

Re: Collum shifter coller

Yea my nub is cracked apart where the pin goes. (I hate that when that happends..)..
I have the slotted band with the adjusting device on it.. but with it being broke I had to inprovise. with a rubber boot W/hole in it for the shifter and a Flat round steel stiffining device to hold shifter in. Putting the sloted band around the outside.. Seams to work OK but not perfect... buttttt well work untill I can get a coller..
OH The Coller on the truck mesured the same around the top , and the leanght was good but was bigger around at the bottom (sounds like my wife LOL )...

Re: Collum shifter coller

I gotta find that 62 Falcon I saw Tim, it had an actual threaded nut that screwed down over the shaft and held in the shift arm firmly.

Give me a week, I'll hook us both up. I'll find that damn falcon or I'll MAKE something to work

Sorry FEand GoingBroke, thought you were B.S-ing. I'd like to see a pic. of that rig, because it's not really clicking in my mind how that works. Are you saying the nut fit over the hub on the collar?

Re: Collum shifter coller

Maybe the guy just put a pipe end on it and threaded the nub to match?? and drilled a hole for a screw to hold the arm??
