Ignition Module Question....

Does anyone happen to know what the difference is between the "blue tab" Module and the "brown tab" Module?

Blue is 7 wires I believe and the Brown only has 5.

Other than that why would mine use the brown instead of the blue?

Nobody in the parts store seemed to know.

I've got an '83 F150 with a 351W that takes the "brown tab" I'm just curious.

Thanks for any answers!!

Re: Ignition Module Question....

Anyone?

Also, Why would my Distributor be Totally Gutless? as in it's empty inside, no stator or electronics inside of distributor. No wires running to it except the coil spark plug wires.

Where would my stator be?

Any comments are appreciated..

Thanks!!

You have a DURASPARK III system.

Thank you very much for the diagrams!!

All your help is VERY much appreciated!!

I'd love to get this truck running and not have to go out and buy something I don't know any history on. This truck was my dad's so I want to keep it.

Re: Ignition Module Question....

If I remember the brown one has a timing retard built in. I dont think you can substitute. They did not make many trucks like yours. You can try unplugging the extra plug and see if you get spark. I think I have seen that before.

Post Re: Ignition Module Question....

The module with the WHITE strain relief was the first used with starting retard. It was later incorporated into the DURASPARK II module (BLUE).

This system seems strange to me on an 83 pickup. What type of fuel delivery does it have?

To diagnose it properly, you will need a shop manual for the truck for that year.
