Angry autolite 1100 carb trouble 1965 240

having trouble with my 1965 ford f-100 carb. Its a autolite 1100 single barrel. rebuilt carb but it idles great; if you throttle it fast it takes gas great, but if you throttle it slow it bogs down some until it catxhes up. no power to get down the road. Re checked timing, vac to advance, idle extra. Last night i re adjusted the float to rebuild kit specks but feul was pouring out of carb, re adjusted it again and had the same prob as before adjusting the float. FED UP AND DISGUSTED, wife is onm my butt and says i'm wasting my time and money on my old truck. Need to get this right.

Adjust your accelerator pump to act a little sooner. That is your only problem.

The accelerator pump set screw should be touching the pump when idling, it might even have to be pushing it in a teency bit.

Give that a few twists each direction and see how she responds.

Then take the time to find a nice Carter YF for the truck. A far superior carb for power over the Auto 1100 for runability, but the chokes on the carters are crappy unless brand new...

Then bend the rod to adjust the pump to squirt sooner.

That should be viable.

I have a pair of 1100's out in my shop. I'll look them over in a few and let you know what I think is the issue.

Re: autolite 1100 carb trouble 1965 240

OK, you have a non dashpot carb. You need to bend or straighten the corner of the linkage that goes under the carb, very carefully, to adjust the Pump squirt.

Where is that rubber vacuum line going to, (the dash?) I hope it's NOT going to the distributor!

Who rebuilt that carb? It looks old to me. Was it just a kit you installed?

I'll be back later tonight or tomorrow morning. It's my wife's birthday...

it was like that when i bought the truck, they said the carb had just been rebuilt, but prob by a shade tree mech....now it wont stay running seems like too much gas or not enough....inside of trottle body looks real wet even down inside the top of the manifold.

If your wife wouldn't object, I can sell you my two core 1100's and you can do a swap and fit and run ability check with one of these.

All you would need to do is swap some linkage parts very carefully and maybe back blow the jets with some carb cleaner.

That carb of yours is definitely not a rebuilt carb, but looks like someone rebuilt it. There's a difference.

Tell her the truck is like Old Yeller, it's a faithful dog that you can't get rid of even though the grizzly bear ate it's back legs...
