1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport Fastback and Parts Cars
I have a total of 5 (yes five) '73 Torinos that I'd like to sell. I have 3 that I'd like to sell as a package deal.
The best of these three cars is a 1973 Ford Gran Torino Sport two door Sportsroof (fastback) with the "H" code 153hp 351 Windsor 2bbl carb engine, FMX automatic transission with column shift, and 2.75 ratio standard 9" rear end. It's copper brown metallic with a brown / tan vinyl bucket seat Sport interior. While not too pretty inside or out, I believe this car still has potential for restoration. Some interesting options are rear window defrost, an underhood chrome package that I believe is factory installed (OEM chrome air cleaner is included, but not shown), and the 14" Magnum 500 wheels with the original white-lettered Firestone Wide-Oval spare, which I was told was only used once. I believe I have the original working AM/FM radio (no 8-track) for it lying around somewhere as well- I think those are fairly rare as well. Some options not checked were air conditioning and the floor console, which seems odd for a bucket seat car. I have some documentation from the original owner in WA state that shows this car has over 200,000 miles on it, yet I believe the engine is original and untouched except for a new timing chain at one point. Of course the odometer only shows five digits, and I believe it currently shows somewhere around 34,000 miles. As I was told, it was driven here to MN from WA state in 1995 by the brother-in-law of the original owner, who had taken it in on trade for some construction work. The brother-in-law had no real interest in the car, so he put it up for sale as soon as he got it home and had transferred the title and purchased Mn tags. It was basically my daily driver in the summers of 1995 through 2002 until it sprung a real main seal leak. The car needs rear quarter panels (right one appears to have been replaced at one point and new reproductions are available) and rust repair on lower door corners for sure, and other rust and body repair here and there. There are some small rust holes in the roof due to a bad vinyl top, but the second parts car does have a good roof that could be put on this car if you don't want to repair the original. I believe it was undercoated when new, so the underbody, while not perfect, is in relatively good shape. I managed to run over a couple fairly large rocks and there is a good size dent in the right rocker panel and another in the floorpan on the right side, but they are nothing that couldn't be fixed. The header panel and right fender are dented, but the first parts car has useable ones to replace them. The interior is in fair shape, but needs a headliner, carpet, door armrests, and front seat covers- I believe all of which have new reproductions available. The car basically sits as it was when parked in 2002, but last summer I got it started with very little effort and drove it around the farmyard, as I have every year since it was taken off the road. This car has a clear title in my name, but it does not have current registration and will need to be trailered. It has no battery, but I think that's about all you should need to drive it on a trailer.
The 1st parts car is another 1973 Ford Gran Torino two door formal roof parts car with the same exterior color and a brown / tan Flight Bench Seat interior. This car has the same drivetrain and was driven by me in 1993-1994. It's 99% complete (missing a couple headlights and the blower motor) and pretty much untouched since then. The header and right fender are useable to repair the other car. It's quite rusty and not worth fixing in my opinion, so that is why I'd call it a parts car. It ran fine when parked, but it is not currently running. This car also has a clear title in my name, but it does not have current registration and will need to be trailered.
The 2nd parts car, which is also a 1973 Gran Torino Sportsroof. It's missing the motor, trans, rear end, and gauge cluster, but has alot of useable parts left (console, shifter, front clip, right door, trunk lid, roof, etc). I believe it was a 351W/C4 car, but I've never actually looked at the door tag. It's the same copper color exterior and brown/tan interior as the fastback car. This car has no title and is for parts only.
I have some pics of these, so please send me an email to bmr at mchsi.com if you'd like me to send them to you. I'd also be happy to exchange phone numbers to discuss any further questions you may have.
Please help me find a good home for these cars- they don't deserve to be crushed! I'm in Paynesville, MN, but he cars are located near my hometown of Montevideo, MN and must be picked up there. I will not be responsible for any transportation or shipping of the cars, but I will be able to assist in loading the cars on your trailer.
In case you missed it, Popular Hot Rodding recently named the 1972 Gran Torino Sport one of the "9 Cars You Need To Build"-check out their website and search for "Torino" for details. Think of the '73 Sport as it's older, more mature brother with the new government-mandated 5 mph impact front bumper, smaller grill, and scoopless hood. Of course if you prefer the looks of the '72, you could always retrofit the '72 front clip to a '73. The' 73 is unique in that it was the last year of the sleeker fastback body style and the non-impact rear bumper, and that's exactly why the NASCAR teams continued to use them for 3 or 4 more years. The boxy '74-'76 style two doors made famous by Starsky and Hutch were only available with the formal roof and had yet another re-designed front end and the 5 mph impact rear bumper.
I also have two more 73's (yes, five total), but the fourth and fifth cars will not be put up for sale until these first three are sold. The fourth car could be restored or used for parts- it's a two door Sportsroof with the original "Q" code 266hp 351 Cleveland Cobra Jet (last of the Cobra Jets) 4bbl carb engine, Toploader 4 speed manual transission with Hurst Shifter, and "N" case 3.50 ratio Traction-Lock 9" rear end. It's medium blue metallic with a black vinyl bucket seat Sport interior. The fifth car is a parts car- a two door formal roof with the 351W, FMX auto, and 2.75 open rear. It's baby blue with a black interior.
