1968 Fairlane Formal roof 2 door
Car has been sitting (inside) for the last 9 years. Almost totally complete (missing a few trim pieces, bench seat is gone, replaced with buckets from a 68 GTO)
Car is originally a 289/unknown automatic- this is reliable info from the 2nd owner. 4th owner (chevy guy) told me it has a 302 in it. I'll tell you for certain that it's a small block, and not a 351W. I'd like to hope it's the original 289, but I couldn't promise it. Motor and trans will need a total overhaul- when it was last used as a daily driver, it went through a LOT of oil and trans fluid. rearend is an 8". Motor has an Edelbrock performer intake and carter AFB carb
Interior is decent- needs work to be a show car, but the dash pad is good. Headliner is missing, and the aforementioned seat swap, and the addition of an aftermarket floor shift are the things to note- NO radio cuts in dash.
Front end had no problems when i was last driving it- tracked and steered good. Wheels are 14" non-chrome Magnum 500's, and all tires have good tread and hold air, but may have problems from sitting. I'll also throw in a pair of wider matching 14" Magnum 500's and a set of 4 GT wheels (no center caps or trim rings)
Body- very little rust showing, but it was repainted not long before I got it. I know there's some work to be done in the floorboards, but it's a LONG way from being a Flintstones-mobile. The font fenders were changed by the 2nd owner because the originals rusted out. I see a bit of rust developing on the pass side, but it's still relatively minor. Doors look fine, but I don't know for sure what's under the paint. Same situation with the quarters, but I'm relatively certain that there is bondo under the paint to some extent. The worst thing showing is some bubbling under the vinyl top near the rear window on both sides. It seems to be solid underneath, but the only way to know for sure is to strip it. Shock towers up front (problem area) look great.
If anyone has serious interest, I'd be glad to take a magnet to it, outline any areas where a magnet won't stick, and post pictures.
Bottom line with the body is to expect some metalwork. There's not a lot of metalwork obviously needed, but I'm honestly not sure what is hidden. I'll be glad to check anything anyone asks, and I'll shoot straight on the answers, because if you're interested, you'll know when you get here- so there's no reason to lie.
It's a great project with a lot of potential. I'm really interested in something older, so that's why I'm letting it go. $1500 obo, very open to trades for raw rod material, if it's something older (pre 1960) Car is in Indianapolis Indiana, and would need to be trailered or towed.

Re: 1968 Fairlane Formal roof 2 door
Stephanie,
First off, let me clear up a few things about this car. It has not been started in the last nine years. The last time I tried, it DID start, but again, that was nine years ago. The engine and transmission needed rebuilt then, and sitting hasn't done them any good.
It sounds like you're looking for something that can be driven right now. If that's the case, my car doesn't fit your needs. This is a project car.
My Fairlane actually is a hardtop. There were two different types of hardtop available- one was a fastback, and the other is a more squared, coupe style roof. Ford called it a Formal Roof, and that what my car has.
As far as me having time to fix it- I just don't have time.

Re: 1968 Fairlane Formal roof 2 door
Richard,
Thanks for the reply and your interest. Here are a few miscellaneous shots of the engine bay and interior.
1968 Fairlane album | Brian Fishburn | Fotki.com
I realize that these aren't the most important shots (exterior) and I apologize for not being better prepared. It's the standard "my crazy busy life" poor excuse.
I have a long weekend scheduled this weekend, and I'm going to get some exterior pictures then.
The car is in Indianapolis. While it has been sitting for a long time, it has been sitting inside, which is both good and bad. Good because it has been out of the elements, bad because the usual "junk migration" in a garage (mostly my wife's #%$& book collection) has somewhat buried it.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, feel free to ask away. If there are any "hot buttons" you have (positive or negative) please let me know. I'll be as honest as I possibly can. I respect your time, and don't want you making a trip if this car isn't what you're looking for.
And if it IS what you're looking for, I want you to know that, too. It's very good project material, and could be an awesome car. I'd really like to see it get in the hands of someone who will give it justice.
Brian

Re: 1968 Fairlane Formal roof 2 door
I got me a 64 Galaxie 500XL complete and running on saturday for $1,500 bucks... And you want' $1,500 for this old think?
Good luck sir!
If it weren't a bench seat car I'd say it's worth it...

Gary, we live in the rust belt, so a classic car with any kind of decent body is worth more here than say, where you are.
