Re: Alternator bolt and Spacer 66 Mustang

I thought these were forums for people who loved fords and the hobby to share information and be helpful to each other, guess I was wrong its just another place for people to be asshats because they are hiding behind an avatar online. I wish you the best of luck in whatever you do with your life.

dude relax, If you felt that I was ripping you off on a bolt and spacer then you would have said no. So lets play out the 10 dollars your going to send me...
about .75 cents for paypals charge
shipping will be about 2.50-3.00
fuel charge to drive to my shop and pull the bolt and spacer off the car .50 cents
taking said hardware to work clean them up and package them, my rate is 19.00 an hour so figure 8.50.
Im really not making anything on this with all the time involved. So if you take off the 8.50 it drops the price down to that puts it around 6 bucks.

All of fords hardware was made for them or by them. they sell books for Fords dealing with just hardware. So instead of having the proper fender bolts lets just throw in some cheapy grade 5/16 bolts and be done with it. Oh yea and dont forget the lock washers.....

Anyway dont worry about him probably just mad b/c I low balled his price that he was going to charge you!

Now this is scary. How about using a CRAPSMAN socket for the spacer with the CHI-COM hardware?

Re: Alternator bolt and Spacer 66 Mustang

kultz- i never disagree with your post -you give the most advice of any poster here - but this one time il dissagree - sir if you look at the end of that bolt you wil see 3 hash marks--thats a grade5 bolt a grade 8 bolt has 5 hash marks-- i stand my ground that the bolt is nothing special i did not suggest he buy a grade 3 cadium plated bolt - hard ware stores around here carry grade 5 and grade 8 bolts-- i think you need to remember that most small parts were farmed out to sub contractors-

for instance- starter bendix-- bendix corp -sidney ny-- inventer and supplyer of starter benbixes--[is bendixes a word?]--

mesure your spacer-there is a couple different ones -- post mesurement and bolt lenght -- ill pull one and send it to ya --

You have to understand that what is sold in Home Depot is not quality fasteners. While FORD did buy their fasteners from suppliers, they had to meet certain criteria. Remember the counterfeit fastener fiasco of a few years ago and many were of aircraft quailty? Heavy equipment also. Fastener failure is a common problem and is completley unneccessary when proper fasteners are available. There are also different lengths/shoulders of cap screws and length of spacers depending on application and accessories adding to the confusion. There is nothing more disappointing (other than to discover a dancer is a cross dresser) than to walk up on a nice FORD and look under the hood seeing an EXCIDE battery, STANT radiator cap and CHI-COM fasteners.

You mean STARTER DRIVE. BENDIX is the name of the GM Division that made them.

Cut the boy some slack and give him what he wants before he catches the dreaded GM DISEASE...

BTW- I used to live in EDEN/STONEVILLE. I sure do miss North Kackolackie....

I ALWAYS use ford hardware. If I take it off it gets cleaned and reinstalled. There is a big difference between the original ford bolt used and ANYTHING you can buy from a hardware store.
