Idle stop solenoid

I am in need of an idle stop solenoid for my '71, 302 Torino 500. I have checked with Auto Zone, Adavance Auot, pep boys, Rock auto, and NAPA with no success. I even contacted GP/Sorensento no avail. ANybody have a working one or know where I can find one? Thanks.

Later!

Re: Idle stop solenoid

Don't you mean a Idle UP soleonoid?

The one that activates when the AC compressor is engaged?

Or something diffrent?

Re: Idle stop solenoid

He is talking about the "curb idle" solenoid. It keeps the car idling higher until you shut the key off - then the engine shuts off without dieseling.

Re: Idle stop solenoid

Correct Paul. I got a tip to try Pony carbs which I will try to get to today. But I have found that the carb itself might be s**t. Yesterday I hauled the car out of the garage and let it run until it warmed up. Then I tried to adjust the idle mixture and when I turned the left screw all the way in, nothing changed. I will order a rebuilt carb this morning.

Yep, that darn thing sounds like it's running rich....
I have the opposite problem on a customers friggin Olds 350, the damn quadrajunk don't have any idle circuts... they won't pull anyway, so I'm tossing it... (already built the damn thing too )

Good luck with your rebuild.

Re: Idle stop solenoid

I stopped yesterday at Advance Auto because on their website they have the 2100. But when I got to the store, the computer came up with a price then changed it's mind to say it is no longer available. I am going to pull it off again this weekend and see if I can found out why the idle screws don't do anything. Maybe the holes are clogged. I have two other two barrels on the shelf and since they came from Fords, maybe I can make one of them work. If not, it looks like there is a four barrel in my future.

Re: Idle stop solenoid

Perhaps the main throttle stop is too far out for the idle screws to effect anything...

Re: Idle stop solenoid

P.S. if your core is junk, I have a couple that I can pick from and send you to rebuild if you need one. I have a couple D2's and C-6's with tag's still I believe..
