As we’ve discussed in the past, the Pro-Touring musclecar scene has been on the rise since its inception in the early ’90s. Back when it was unheard of to have a then modern engine, transmission and suspension in an early car. In fact, some of the first real Pro Touring cars were late ’60s, early ’70s musclecars rocking what were then modern engines and transmissions.

Think 1965 Mustang coupe meets a EFI 5.0 and a Borg Warner T-5 five-speed manual transmission from a Fox Mustang, coupled with a Mustang II’s IFS. When it comes to Pro-Touring musclecars, a battle of supremacy between the Pro Street folks has waged for years. The two terms can sometimes get interlinked, but they are quite different from each other.

Pro-Touring enthusiasts like to concoct classic and modern car hybrids, like the one described above for example. The end-goal here is to either meet (or typically exceed) the performance of their modern counterparts, and they usually do a damn good job of it, too.

The difference with Pro Street cars, is that most of the time, these cars are built specifically as street/strip cars. They can sometimes be powered by modern powerplants and such, but are mostly built purposely for the street and the strip, instead of autocross and racing events like the Pro-Touring musclecars.

“Finished in October of 2014, this custom is the direct result of what happens when a long-time Mustang fan, Phil Heacock of Indiana, meets the owners of a top-notch hot rod shop, Allison’s Rod and Custom of Shelbyville, Kentucky,” the original ad details.

“The Allisons were looking for a client who wanted to maximize the potential of a classic Mustang. And Heacock, a veteran SCCA racer, was looking for a street car that he could take to the track. The project began in 2011, when this solid pony was stripped to bare metal and massaged into better-than-factory condition. Those super straight surfaces were set off with quality DuPont paint, thoroughly color-sanded and sealed in five coats of clear. And, when all was said and done, this Ford debuted as a fresh twist on a ‘can’t miss’ favorite!” For the full details on this Restomod 1969 Mustang GT Sportsroof, checkout the original ad here at RK Motorsports.
