While the Mustang world patiently awaits the results of the Dennis Collins Fox Mustang Collection sale at Barrett-Jackson, a low-mile 1985 Ford Mustang GT sat quietly on eBay and failed to meet its reserve. With just over 36,000 miles, the car appeared to be in excellent condition.
Trimmed out in GT form, the car has most every option you could get in 1985, all of which are still intact and in working condition, including the air conditioning. According to the listing, the car was all original, including the paint, with the exception of new tires and a new Motorcraft battery. The owner admits the headliner has some sag to it and the drivers seat has a tear, but promises to get those things fixed for the winning bidder.
The car also comes with what appears to be every piece of paperwork you could get with a 1985 GT along with a cool, hand-written Auto Record book from the original owner. It appears that a nicer, more original 1985 GT would be difficult to track down.
While we are not sure what the reserve was, we know it had to be more than $11,100 dollars. What most would consider pretty strong money for a Fox. Obviously, however, this owner wanted a little more. The listing states that the owner had originally planned do do a Coyote swap on this car, but just could not bring themselves to cut up such and original, which we definitely commend.
However, if the car did not sell at auction, the owner planned to push forward with the Coyote swap. Well, unless one of you swoops in to rescue this gem, it looks like its time for them to source a new 5.0-liter. This car will definitely make a killer Coyote-swapped car, but we cannot help but think, they are only original once.
