Sam Haymart
One of the most memorable ponies that rolled into Charlotte, North Carolina on April 14th for the 50th celebration of the Mustang, has found a new home. The 1995 GT Coupe owned by Sam Haymart , “Founder of Mustangs Across America”, placed her on the auction block recently. The car was snatched up a few days later by fellow pony enthusiast, “Rick Mcgraw”.
McGraw,”the owner”, of a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback took part in the Mustangs Across America tour and came to know Haymart and the well known 1995 GT Coupe ,used as the pace car, during the MAA journey. When McGraw learned this special pony was going on the block for auction he could not resist the temptation to make her part of the family and scooped it up for $4,000.
The 1995 GT has approximately 93,000 miles on it. Prior to the Mustangs Across America tour the 1995 GT had never been modified, raced, or involved in an accident. This fully optioned GT is equipped with a five speed manual, leather seats, ABS, Mach 460, factory CD player, and 17” wheels. According to Haymart the engine and drive-train are in outstanding condition,. and averaged 25-27 mpg on the highway regularly.

Upon his initial purchase of the car, Haymart gave it a new look and some mechanical upgrades for the long trip ahead. The exterior of the Mustang was given a vinyl graphic wrap for the event. The interior was upgraded with new custom leather seats by TMI and new carpet from Auto Custom Carpets. A few of the mechanical upgrades were new spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, SVE short throw shifter, a replacement power steering pump, KYB gas struts, and PowerStop rotors and pads all the way around.
McGraw can be assured that the car’s new home with the McGraw family will be a place where it’s well taken care of and maintained as part of history and preserved. Expect to see this pony in the upcoming release from Mustangs Across America Movie as part of the documentary shot during the travels of the MAA trip from LA to Charlotte. The Documentary is set for release in fall of 2014.
