If it weren’t already enough that this 1968 Shelby GT350 headed to the Mecum Harrisburg auctions next month were a low production number, you might be further interested in this Mustang. Being number 00945, this Shelby was delivered brand-new Dub Richardson Ford in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on January 18, 1968, according to the Mecum listing.
Apart from being listed in the Shelby American Automobile Club’s 1968-1970 Shelby Registry, it’s also interesting that this GT350 was never returned to the dealer for an intake recall which required a replacement. This means that the car still retains its completely original, ultra-rare, cast-iron intake manifold from the factory.
As the auction listing states, production for the 1968 Shelby GT350 and GT500 moved locations to the A.O. Smith facility in Ionia, Michigan, for all of the fiberglass body components for all convertible and fastback models.
“With one refresh in factory Code-M Wimbledon White paint with Guardsmen Blue side and over-the-top Lemans stripes, this GT350 fastback is equipped with its original black interior including the carpet, headliner, seat covers, steering wheel, Shelby-exclusive console with Cobra-embossed lid and original Stewart Warner gauges, and date-correct seat belts with reels,” says Mecum. “Powered by a date-code-correct, J-code 302-cubic-inch, four-barrel V8, the Shelby is also optioned with automatic transmission, power steering, power front disc brakes, tilt steering column, tinted glass and rare factory air conditioning.”
