Unlike many of the Ford fans featured here, Paul and Janet Towle of Lake Villa, Illinois, are relative newcomers to the Mustang crowd.
“I just got into the hobby about seven years ago when I bought my 2010 Grabber Blue Mustang GT,” Paul, whose first automotive experience came in the form of a blue ’68 Coronet, said.
“I used the car to get to and from high school but it had quite a few miles on it,” he added. “It ran OK, but it was big and eventually gave up the ghost after a summer trip to Long Island’s Jones Beach following graduation.”
Sadly, that’s a fate that nearly every car nut can relate to.
Today with a few more miles under his seat, Paul, an executive and self-proclaimed history nut and wife of 24 years Janet, spend their free time cruising one of three of Ford’s latest offerings.
For show and track excitement, a 2013 Gotta Have it Green Roush Stage 3 screamer gets the call. “Greenie is our weekend and special day driver,” Paul explained.“She is very popular among kids and a great hit at local parades.”
A glance at its option package makes it easy to see why (see sidebar). “It can be loud,” says Paul, but he admits the smile from taking it through its paces on the track can last for weeks.
Holding down road duties for the Towle’s is wife Janet’s sharp 2011 Sterling Gray coupe and Paul’s 2010 Grabber Blue Mustang GT. Both of which have earned hardware on the national level.
Room For More
Although Paul and Janet admit air conditioning and more horsepower is always nice, “there is just something about a classic Mustang that is incredibly pleasing to the eye and the heart.”
